The City of Pembroke is cashing in on some federal and provincial funding to upgrade a major water main project. The city has been awarded funding through the Canada Infrastructure Program, Green Infrastructure Funding Stream for the Bennett Street and Boundary Road Watermain Replacement and Taylor Bridge Watermain Suspension project. Under this agreement, Pembroke will receive a maximum of $3.5 million which is 83.33 percent of the estimated eligible costs for the project. The job is expected to be completed in 2023.
The scope of the project includes the reconstruction of the watermain on Bennett Street from Everett Street to International Drive, the reconstruction/extension of watermain on Boundary Road from Bennett Street to the existing watermain east of the Muskrat River near Paul Martin Drive and the installation of a new watermain crossing the Taylor Bridge over the Muskrat River.
The project is to be phased over two years, with Bennett Street ready for tender and to be completed by Fall 2022, the Boundary Road portion will be tendered and completed in the 2023 construction season.
The City’s contribution for Phase 1 is included in the 2022 Capital Budget at $1,910,857. Phase 2 will be budgeted as required for the 2023 Capital Plan.
