The Rapids Skate Park in Pembroke will be the site of an upcoming skateboard competition. The SXS Roll Forever skateboard competition is set for Sunday, August 7th and is part of the first ever Water and Dirt Festival. Organizer Tanner Hogan from the Colony Skate Shop in Pembroke says the event is a tribute to the original Pembroke skateboard shop SXS Boardsports.
Elicia Breslin, the owner of the original Pembroke skateboard shop, says SXS Boardsports was her first love adding they used to live above the store and would hand out skateboards at 11:00pm. She says it’s nice to hear how much people have been impacted by the sport in the community.
Hogan encourages people who want to watch the skateboard competition to bring a lawn chair as there is limited seating available. He adds they are working with the City of Pembroke to bring in coolers, tables, tents and a sound system and they’re working hard to get a proper viewing area at the skate park for these types of events.
You can register for the skateboard competition online or in-person starting at 11:00am on the day of the event. For $20 you get a meal, a t-shirt and swag bag, or you can register for the event for free and just skate. Helmets are strongly encouraged, riders will need to sign a waiver and those under 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign for them.
The 12-17 girls category starts at 1:00pm, the 12-17 boys category starts at 1:45pm, the ladies 18+ event starts at 2:30pm and men’s 18+ category starts at 3:15pm. Awards and prizes will be handed out at 4:00pm and there will be a highest ollie competition with cash rewards starting at 4:45pm.
Hogan is thanking the City of Pembroke and all sponsors, including Dustin Gruntz Carpentry for their support in hosting this event.
