The first ever Water and Dirt Festival gets started this week. Opening ceremonies for the event will be held Thursday, August 4th at 2:00pm along the Millennium Boardwalk in Pembroke’s Waterfront Park next to the Portage Sundial. Event organizer Colin Coyle says there will be something for everyone.
The 10-day festival includes events such as the Upper Ottawa River Race, a Kayak Fishing Tournament, the Extreme Slalom Race, Doggy Paddle, skate board and bike park competitions, a triathlon, trail run and the Forest Lea Enduro.
Coyle hopes to grow the Water and Dirt Festival into a large scale tourist attraction for Eastern Ontario.
The Water and Dirt Festival also features other special events such as a moonlight paddle, fly fishing clinic, a bike maintenance workshop and entertainment at the Petawawa Container Market.
The event is a partnership between the City of Pembroke, Town of Petawawa, Township of Laurentian Valley and Township of North Algona Wilberforce.
