The Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village in Pembroke has a new name.
Museum Administrator Julia Klinack says they had about 50 to 60 people attend a Champaign kick-off event on Sunday, August 14th, 2022.
Klinack says they are now called the Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre.
Klinack says the rebranding process started in 2019 and involved the Ottawa Valley Historical Society and Champlain Trail Museum.
She says they are still a museum, but as a heritage centre will have more opportunities to grow and expand in different directions to include more of the history and culture in the Ottawa Valley.
Klinack says the rebranding put an emphasis on cultural inclusivity and diversity and she adds the museum is looking to expand their presence in the community to showcase what they have to offer.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre has information on early settlers, farming and agriculture, the logging legacy and three outbuilding including a restored pioneer home, the Micksburg United Church and Lowertown School.
The museum and heritage center at 1032 Pembroke Street East will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday until the end of August. Klinack says in September they will move to their fall hours and remain open from noon to 4:00pm.
