McDump-Braeside, or Recycle City?
The jury’s out, after a public presentation Thursday night at the Murray Yantha Community Centre on the proposed Sustane Technologies Waste Treatment Plant being touted for McNab-Braeside.
That’s Scott Brum, a sitting Township Councillor, who says the independently-moderated information session just left him muddled.
Brum thinks there’s an early risk of jumping to conclusions prematurely.
One of the features advocates of the initiative have been pointing to is the successfully-operating existing Sustane plant in Chester Nova Scotia, which, as it turns out, is more developmental than functional, according to opponent Chuck Crispim of MB-ACE.
Crispim says the Sustane proposal fails three important litmus tests.
The MB-ACE spokesperson is certain the matter will be THE ballot question in October’s municipal election.
A chance encounter at a Federation of Canadian Municipalities companion trade show has landed like a paper airplane on what’s perceived as friendly soil according to Sustane founder Peter Vinall.
Vinall appeared undeterred when the weight of sentiment expressed fell on the side of caution.
The Sustane President believes things will continue to move forward on his firm’s plans.
Township Mayor Tom Peckett has been seen as a tireless advocate for the Sustane initiative, but he says it’s not a situation of putting the cart before the horse.
Peckett says with MB-ACE organizing in the community against the proposal, it was time for Thursday’s session to be held.
Does Peckett think the Sustane proposal will be that ballot question come October in the Township?
The incumbent believes the future of Arnprior’s dump, located adjacent the Ottawa River in Braeside, should also factor in voters’ minds.
