Some changes are being proposed for federal electoral ridings that could see a few districts in Eastern Ontario renamed.
It’s proposed that Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke be renamed Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke. The Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke riding was created in 1976.
The Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston district would also be renamed Lanark-Frontenac.
Every 10-years federal electoral districts are reviewed.
If approved, changes would apply after the next election in 2024.
The riding of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke would consist of all municipalities in Renfrew County except for Greater Madawaska. Pembroke, part of Ottawa (from outside of Carp to Arnprior), South Algonquin and the south part of the unorganized area of Nipissing would also be included.
The newly created riding of Lanark-Frontenac would include part of Ottawa west of the City along Highway 7, Greater Madawaska, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, Mississippi Mills, Beckwith, Central Frontenac, Drummond/North Elmsley, Lanark Highlands, Montague, North Frontenac, Rideau Lakes, Tay Valley, Merrickville-Wolford, Westport and parts of Elizabethtown-Kitley and South Frontenac.
A virtual hearing will be held on October 26th at 6:30pm for the proposed changes in Eastern Ontario and the City of Ottawa.
