You can feed some of the sheep at Alder Creek Farm in Golden Lake this weekend. It’s part of the first Farms Open event in Renfrew County that will be hosted on Sunday, September 18th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Kim Groskleg says Alder Creek Farm has been in the family for five generations and celebrated 100-years of farming in 2020.
Groskleg says her great-grandparents, grandparents and parents ran a beef operation and when they took over the farm she says they bought their kids two sheep and have seen the flock grow to 80 ewes.
She says as the operation grew they decided to get stock from reputable breeders. Groskleg says they also have a couple dogs, cats, a horse and Gus the guardian llama on the farm.
Groskleg says they have a few baby lambs you might be able to hold if you attend this weekend. Alder Creek Farms will also offer farm tours and an opportunity to feed the sheep. Groskleg says the average age of a farmer in Renfrew County is 55-years-old and Alder Creek Farm hopes to inspire the next generation of farmers in Renfrew County.
Alder Creek Farm is located at 620 Roesler Road in Golden Lake and is of nine host sites for the Farms Open event on Sunday.
Other host sites include Mapleside Sugarbush, Forest Cove Alpacas, Shulist Family Farm, Sernoskie’s Tree Farm, Cardaleacres, Ottawa Valley Farm to Fork, Pinnacle Haven Farm and Calabogie Rustic Farm Market.
