Long-time Petawawa Town Councillor James Carmody is running for re-election. Carmody has represented the community for the last three terms (12-years).
Carmody says affordable housing is important and notes we should be preparing for the next generation, not the next election. The incumbent councillor suggests taxing affordable housing units at a different rate and waiving development fees for affordable housing projects.
If re-elected, Carmody says he will not roll the dice with taxpayers dollars. Fiscal responsibility is important to the three term councillor who says they will look for new revenue streams and scrutinize every dollar the town spends.
Freedom is another important point for Carmondy who says we have a right to freedom and obligation to uphold that right in others.
The Petawawa resident says municipal governments need to support marginalized segments of society that have traditionally been wronged and discriminated against.
Carmody says it’s important to ensure government is for the everyday person and by the everyday person adding the business of government should not be so complex that you need a Harvard degree to understand it.
Carmody is one of the candidates running for a seat on Petawawa Town Council. Other candidates running in the October 24th Municipal Election are Simon Brooks, Lisa Coutu, Karen Donovan, Adam Driscoll, Gerald Hoffman, Matthew Mclean, Cyndi Mills, Murray Rutz, Theresa Sabourin and Barry Schimmens.
Gary Serviss and Jody Anne McDonald are the two candidates running to replace long-time Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet.
