After a municipal career that spanned over three decades, Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet is getting ready for his final council meeting.
Sweet did not seek re-election and will have one more council meeting before handing over the chain of office to Gary Serviss who was voted in by local residents on Monday night. Sweet is congratulating all candidates who decided to run for council saying it takes a lot of courage and someone who cares about the community.
Sweet has been an elected official in Petawawa since 1988 and served the last 22-years as Mayor. While he will be stepping away from municipal politics, Sweet says he will still be around to answer any questions.
In terms of advice to the new councillors who were elected, Sweet says it’s important to listen and learn from the experienced staff.
The long time Mayor in Petawawa hopes the new council will keep the “pay as you go” philosophy that has kept the town debt free, an accomplishment Sweet is extremely proud of.
Sweet says Petawawa will be busy over the next year with the recent announcement of a new grocery store, additional apartments going up, planned road work and a new comfort station along the Algonquin Trail.
The final council meeting for Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet will be on Monday, November 7th starting at 6:30pm. The following week, the chain of office will be passed to Gary Serviss who will also represent the Town of Petawawa at the county level.
