It was one of the most memorial teams in Lumber Kings history and on Sunday, they took centre stage. 12 members of the 1972 Pembroke Lumber Kings were on hand to mark their 50th anniversary. A team that went undefeated at the Memorial Centre and came to within three wins of a national Junior A title. Rod Schutt scored 90 points that year as a rookie and he tells myFM that the support for the team was something he’ll never forget.
Schutt also tells us that walking back into the Pembroke Memorial Centre was a wave of emotion.
The former rookie goes on to mention that it was great to see the gang again.
Wearing their old numbers on the back of Lumber King jerseys, the players were individually announced as they walked to centre ice as part of the pre-game ceremonies.
