Today is Rockstar Employees Day on 104.9 myFM sponsored locally by Liuna Local 527.
Here we feature Catherine White, an employee at No Frills and the Canadian Addictions Treatment Centre in Pembroke.
In June of 2023, Catherine White will have worked in the grocery industry in Pembroke for 47-years.
She was first hired to work for the Loblaw’s company in 1976 and has seen the store in Pembroke’s west end transition to Moncion Riverside Market in 1994, Tony and Jill’s No Frills in 2016 and most recently Steven and Julie have taken over the Pembroke No Frills.
White says when she first started on the job they used the old cash registers with cranks and items only went up to $9.99. Another big change was when they started with UPC’s and staff didn’t have to individually price items on the shelves.
Dedication, perseverance and patience are three keys to being a successful employee according to White.
In her current position at No Frills, White does scanning integrity, signage, merchandising, store displays and also works in the cash office.
The long-time employee says she always tries to give 100 to 110 percent.
When not working at the grocery store, White also works with the Canadian Addiction Treatment Centre and says it’s a great place to help people who are struggling.
