A student from Algonquin College in Pembroke will compete on the national stage for curling.
Kelly Middaugh, an Outdoor Adventure Naturalist student at Algonquin College, will travel to Kamloops, British Columbia, to compete in her first Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Growing up, Kelly watched her parents Wayne and Sherry Middaugh curl at the national level and now they will have the opportunity to watch their daughter compete at the annual Canadian women’s curling championship.
Middaugh is excited for the opportunity and will play with Team Laurie St. Georges out of Quebec.
Middaugh spends four to five days a week on the ice curling and is able to balance post-secondary education with curling at the highest level.
Middaugh is from Victoria Harbour, Ontario, and loves being in Pembroke.
She says everyone at the Pembroke Curling Club was excited after her team won the provincial championships and qualified for the Scotties.
Middaugh encourages everyone to try curling.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be played from February 17th to February 26th, 2023.
The winner goes on to represent Canada at the women’s world curling championships.
