The Municipalities of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester and Sheenboro have a issued a joint statement on potential flooding. Concerns are being expressed that rapid snowmelt combined with potential rainfall may see water levels continue to rise along the Ottawa River past the end of this week. The local governments are encouraging all residents who are in need to take the necessary precautions. If your dwelling becomes unsafe, please leave- and advise the Municipal Office that you are doing so. Should you need temporary accommodations, again, contact the Municipal Office. Remember to turn off your hydro prior to leaving. Also, your drinking water could be contaminated. Several private roads are currently closed and impassable. Respect signage and steer clear as able. Residents are advised that emergency vehicles will not be able to access roads that are closed due to flooding. Sandbags and sand are available for all residents at the Municipal Garage at Demers Centre at 450 chemin du Rang 5, and the Chichester Fire Hall, 1513 chemin Chapeau-Sheenboro. Residents from the Municipalities of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester and Sheenboro are welcome to either location. Only take sandbags if your main dwelling is in imminent danger.
