Local seniors support agency Carefor Health & Community Services has secured $100,000 from the federal Community Services Recovery Fund, part of a $227 million distribution to over 5,000 agencies. The grant empowers Carefor to implement an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI), Anti-Racism, and Wellness Strategy.
The COVID-19 pandemic hit home and community care hard, with staff leaving for higher-paying roles. CEO Steve Perry notes a 25% nurse loss, 28% PSW loss, and 10% community staff decrease. The grant enables a modernized talent approach centered on EDI, anti-racism, wellness, and improved hiring. Carefor’s commitment to inclusivity drives partnership with consultants.
Minister Jenna Sudds hails the fund for aiding local-level change and resilience. This aligns with the Government of Canada’s larger project, “Rebuilding an Engaged and Healthy Workforce to Support Community Care.”
