In Renfrew County, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Societies offer free “Animal Smart Presentations” to schools, aiming to nurture empathy, responsibility, and a stronger bond with animals among students. These presentations, now expanding to include French, focus on animal well-being and emotions for elementary grades. myFM spoke with Heather Jobe, Community Outreach Coordinator for the OSPCA Renfrew County, who shared all the details:
The program’s mission is to enhance animal lives through free educational presentations. Collaboration with teachers, educators, and community groups is crucial. However, the program’s success depends on recruiting more volunteers. To celebrate their 150th anniversary, they aim to add 50 volunteers, particularly for humane education and the Animal Smart Program, which currently has 32 volunteers.
Interested individuals can visit ontariospca.ca/renfrew or the animal center at 115 Woodcrest Dr. in Pembroke. High school students are also welcome to join, engaging younger children through interactive activities. The Animal Smart Program encourages those passionate about animals and eager to inspire children to consider joining as volunteers. Learn more at animalsmart.ca.
