Whether or not there will be an impending strike at No Frills outlets in the region depends on the outcome of contract talks that are currently continuing.
At the moment, we understand a decision will be reached Sunday on next steps if negotiations fail.
Paul Whyte represents the union’s bargaining committee and supplies myFM/Oldies 107.7 with the following statement:
“Unifor’s No Frills bargaining committee will work to deadline to achieve a fair collective agreement that secures decent work and pay for 1,200 grocery workers. If Loblaw does not come to the table with a serious offer to address workers’ demands for decent pay and work, amidst a Canadian affordability crisis, workers will strike. We encourage customers to voice their support of workers’ demands for fair pay and decent work and to respect picket lines in the event of a strike.”
The Renfrew No Frills is represented by Unifor.
Pembroke and Arnprior No Frills locations at this point will not be affected, save for the possibility of product shortages stemming from potential supply-chain solidarity.
