A Pembroke city Councillor has been found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct regarding comments made about municipal government processes during a council meeting back on April 18th of this year. One of Councillor Troy Purcell’s comments included “When I inquire about activity updates, posting by-laws and other supporting documentation to improve transparency, I am told that it causes concerns, we do not have action tracking capabilities at this time, there are record retention issues we are resolving.” In a statement to council on Tuesday, Councillor Purcell says it wasn’t in his intention to bash city staff.
Purcell goes on to say that he was simply frustrated.
The City’s Integrity Commissioner Tony Fleming suggested as a penalty, Purcell’s pay be suspended for 15 days and an apology be read into at an open meeting of Council. In a statement to council on Tuesday, Councillor Purcell says he doesn’t agree with it.
In a split vote of council members of 3-3, the motion was defeated and Purcell will not be reprimanded. For the complete report from the Integrity Commissioner , visit the city’s website
