Family and Children Services of Renfrew County’s Holiday Meal Program is back! Their Holiday Meal Program offers which provides families in need with a pre-cooked frozen holiday meal with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, carrots, gravy and pie. Started by Brittany Hanniman four years ago, she says the response to the program has been emotional.
She encourages people to take advantage of the program by calling the Centre at 613-735-6866 or email inquiries@FCSRenfrew.on.ca.
Hanniman points out the holiday season can be an expensive and stressful time, so their goal is just to alleviate some of that stress for families.
This year, Hanniman says, their goal is to support 150 families in the area.
But Hanniman, says she’s hoping the community might be able to help them out this year. The entire program is donation-based, either the food itself is donated or through monetary donations so they can purchase the food. A donate now button on Family Services’ website is available for individuals interested in donating to the Holiday Meal Program. Hanniman adds that businesses or grocery stores can contact her by email at Brittany.Hanniman@FCSRenfrew.on.ca if they’re able to spare food for the program. The plan, she says, is to do the cooking at Pembroke Pentecostal Tabernacle Church on December 9th and 10th, so their deadline for donations is November 30th.
