An international affair that rocked schools across the province has finally led to charges.
Ontario Provincial Police arrested 45-year-old El Hachm El Moussi of Casablanca, Morocco, in relation to a series of bomb threats to schools and other public facilities on November 1st.
He’s now facing two counts each of uttering threats, mischief, and extortion, thanks to a joint investigation by the OPP’s cybercrime unit and the Belgian Police.
You may remember that the threats demanded money in exchange for details about the alleged explosives, although none were ever found.
While local schools were not targeted, the news did spread, causing Renfrew County’s school boards to release a statement assuring parents that students were safe.
In the meantime, the OPP is currently working with the Federal Department of Justice on how they will get El Moussi, who is in Morocco, to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice.
