It’s a unique solution to an ongoing housing crisis that is particularly difficult for senior women. There are approximately 350,000 senior women living alone in Ontario and 30 per cent of them are living in poverty. With high rental prices, low vacancy rates and increasing inflation, it’s no surprise that single, senior women are struggling, says Pat Dunn, founder of a Peterborough-based organization that is expanding into Renfrew County. Senior Women Living Together is an online platform where women can learn about shared living, find compatible homemates and together find suitable rental accommodation.
Dunn says that while the program is aimed at seniors, they put a focus on women.
Since the program launched prior to the pandemic, Dunn says that it’s been a major game changer.
