In one of the most entertaining games of the season, the Pembroke Lumber Kings snapped the Renfrew Wolves 12-game winning streak with an impressive 5-2 home ice win over their regional rival. Cam Hicklin scored twice and Kevin Jones turned away 32 of the 34 shots he faced as the Kings made up some ground in their chase for a post-season post.
Played in front of a crowd of almost 1,000 fans, it was a high energy game filled with body checks, great scoring chances and stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink. The Kings were 1 of 6 on the powerplay but scored a critical shorthanded goal in the second period that gave them momentum for the rest of the contest. Hicklin was set up beautifully by Eric Bernard on a 2-on-1 giving the Kings a 2-1 lead going into the third period.
The Kings now have to play three games in three days next week, travelling to Smiths Falls to face the Bears on Friday, February 2nd before playing another road game the following night in Carleton Place. The Kings will cap this stretch with a re-match with the Canadians on Sunday, February 4th at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. Puck drop will be 7 p.m.
