Students across Renfrew County and beyond are set to enjoy a week off school with the March Break scheduled for March 11-15. If you’re not jetting off on a tropical vacation or facing a calendar filled to the brim, you may be looking for something to keep the kids busy. There are plenty of opportunities right here in our backyard to make use of that free time. Here are our suggestions:
- Make it maple – Visit a local maple sugar shack. The sap is flowing and a number of local sugar bushes offer experiences for those looking for some March Break fun. Fulton’s Sugar Bush and Maple Shop in Pakenham has horse-drawn sleigh rides, outdoor activities and more. At Mapleside Sugarbush near Pembroke, take a walk in the maples and see the shanty.
- Movie magic – The O’Brien Theatres in both Arnprior (check out the new seats downstairs) and Renfrew have matinees all week long, along with tasty treats to enjoy while you watch.
- Ice, ice baby – Go skating or swimming at your local recreation centre or head to an area ski hill, including Calabogie Peaks or Mount Pakenham.
- Go bowling! Check out the newly renovated Steelheads and Strikes in Arnprior or visit Opeongo Bowlodrome and test your luck on the lanes.
- Embrace nature – Head to one of our many local trails for a hike or a walk and look for signs of spring.
- Hit the books – Public libraries have programming, activities, resources and plenty of cozy spots to curl up with a book. Visit yours during the March Break.
- Come out swinging – Golf season is just around the corner and Dragonfly Golf Links is opening its driving range March 8-10. If you’ve got a young golfer in your life, take them out to hit some balls.
