The Petawawa Chiefs Old Timers Hockey Club is marking four decades of hockey and community involvement with their annual tournament. Established in 1982, the Chiefs are known for their old-time hockey and dedication to local causes.
Throughout the years, the Chiefs have been pillars of support for various community endeavors, including donations to Pembroke/Petawawa Food Banks, high school bursaries, and vital civic projects like refurbishing the kitchen at the Petawawa Civic Center. Notable recent contributions include aiding the Petawawa cenotaph memorial stone project and supporting the cancer fund at the Pembroke Regional Hospital. Darryl McLoughlin, a cherished member of the Petawawa Chiefs, expressed to myFM news the profound impact these events have in bringing the community together.
The tournament kicks off on March 15th, featuring 15 teams and a variety of age divisions. Saturday’s lineup features action-packed hockey matches, a morning breakfast, and delectable food offerings throughout the day and evening. The grand finale comes Saturday night with the St. Patrick’s Day dance, featuring the lively tunes of the Ghost Town Cryers, promising an evening of joy and celebration. McLoughlin elaborated on the tournament’s significance, highlighting its role in fostering community cohesion.
Residents are invited to join in the festivities at the Petawawa Civic Centre on March 15th and 16th. Doors for the dance open at 8:00 PM, with festivities starting at 9:00 PM. Admission is $10 at the door, ensuring a night of cherished memories and spirited fun.
