The Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce (UOVCC) made significant strides towards regional collaboration and expansion during its annual general meeting held on February 22nd at the Ottawa Valley Business Summit. Member businesses gathered at the summit and unanimously voted in favor of a proposal to accept members from the Greater Arnprior Chamber of Commerce (GACC) into the UOVCC network.
Cyndi Mills, President of the UOVCC Board of Directors, expressed her delight at the decision, emphasizing the region’s tradition of camaraderie and the shared vision for a robust business community across the Ottawa Valley.
“This expansion aligns perfectly with our strategic objectives and allows us to offer valuable programs and services to a wider network of businesses,” stated Kelly Hollihan, Executive Director of UOVCC.
Alicia Ott, President of the GACC Board of Directors, addressed the assembly, highlighting the significance of collaboration and partnership across a broader region. The move aims to leverage the combined efforts of both chambers to enhance the value proposition for their members.
As part of the agreement, the GACC will purchase memberships for its members within the UOVCC for the year 2024, ensuring they benefit from the available resources and services. Plans for a formal amalgamation will be workshopped by the leadership teams of both chambers, with a review scheduled for approval at the next Annual General Meeting.
“I am genuinely excited about the opportunities this amalgamation brings and the positive impact it will have on all our businesses,” Ott remarked, underlining the commitment to nurturing a resilient and dynamic business community in the Ottawa Valley.
In addition to the expansion motion, member businesses approved the UOVCC’s five-year strategic plan and welcomed new directors to the board. Alicia Ott, Sandra Swain, and Crystal Hogg joined as elected directors, while Lindsay Wilson, Rebecca Gill, and Chris Neff were appointed as ex officio advisors, representing Economic Development officers for Arnprior, Whitewater Region, and the Township of Laurentian Valley.
With this expansion and strategic alignment, the UOVCC is poised to foster greater collaboration and growth opportunities for businesses across the Ottawa Valley region, paving the way for a prosperous future built on strong partnerships and shared success.
