The City of Pembroke Parks and Recreation Committee has awarded the design build services and construction repairs of the Kinsmen Pool. This week, the committee officially hired Bel-Con Design Builders LTD for the immediate repairs which includes the design for removal, supply and replacement/installation of the walls and roof of the existing Kinsmen Pool Butler building and repairs to the corroded sections on the existing beams. Installation works and the removal and reinstallation of electrical and mechanical components as required. The existing columns and beams are to remain and scope of work shall include the cleaning.
The cost of the work will cos roughly $1.1 million. Council had budgeted $1.4 million to do the work back in January, pending financial support from Laurentian Valley. The Corporation has confirmed with Laurentian Valley Township that they will contribute up to 30% of the net cost (excluding all grants, municipal contributions, and donations) of the repairs to the pool enclosure and the repairs to the administration building
of the estimated cost of 1.4M to a maximum of a $420,000 contribution. In addition, Friends of the Regional Pool have submitted a grant to the Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital Grant funding stream. The maximum funding allotment is $200,000.00. It’s expected that the Kinsmen Pool will be reopened to the public by September.
