Provincial government makes $1.6 billion investment in housing-enabling infrastructure

The provincial government announced a $1.6 billion investment Thursday in housing-enabling infrastructure. In his speech, Premier Doug Ford said this is a response to the concerns he’s heard from lower-tier governments.

Ford said reaching their goal of 1.5 million new homes by 2031 is more important than ever.

The program will support municipalities looking to build or expand the supporting infrastructure necessary for housing development like roads and water. Premier Doug Ford said municipal leaders know best.

$1 billion is set aside for the new municipal housing infrastructure program, and the water systems fund is seeing a $625 million infusion to add to the existing $200 million.
