Whitewater Region council has approved a five-year land use agreement with the Renfrew County ATV Club for the use of the township’s former CN Rail line trail/Trail B.
The agreement, which commences May 1, covers the limited use, maintenance and improvement of the 35-km stretch of the 296-km portion of the former rail line, now known as the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail. It runs from Smiths Falls to just shy of Mattawa. Renfrew County’s stretch is also known as the Algonquin Trail.
According to the township, Renfrew County ATV Club’s planned support activities for the trail have an approximate value of up to $48,400 and include trail grading, trail warden services, outreach/promotion, trail stewardship, and a capital program that involves bridge repairs and re-decking.
