A resident of Laurentian Valley finds themselves entangled in legal proceedings following a recent collision involving two vehicles within the confines of the City of Pembroke.
The incident, which took place on April 27, 2024, around 11:45 a.m., prompted the commencement of an investigation by the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The collision, categorized as a fail-to-remain motor vehicle accident, unfolded on Pembroke Street East in proximity to Angus Campbell Drive. According to reports, a grey SUV was proceeding eastbound on Pembroke Street East when it came to a halt within a line of traffic. Unexpectedly, a white SUV, also traveling eastbound on the same thoroughfare, collided with the stationary grey SUV from behind. Subsequently, the white SUV fled the scene, failing to fulfill its obligations under the law.
The aftermath of the collision left two occupants of the grey SUV with minor injuries.
Following meticulous investigative efforts, law enforcement authorities were able to identify the individual responsible for the hit-and-run incident. Matthew Von Dungern, aged 40 and a resident of Laurentian Valley, has been implicated in the case. As a result of the ongoing investigation, Von Dungern faces a slew of charges under various statutes, including the Criminal Code (CC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA). The charges levelled against Von Dungern include, obstructing a Peace Officer, failing to remain at the scene of the accident, failing to report the accident, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
The legal proceedings against Von Dungern underscore the gravity with which authorities treat hit-and-run incidents, emphasizing the importance of accountability and adherence to road safety regulations.
