Local runner Steve Wood completed his fundraising mission with surpassing his initial goal of $12,000. He took part in the Ottawa Race weekend and raised $17,000 for the Robbie Dean Centre. Wood tells myFM that he is started this fundraiser in memory of his daughter Taylor.
Audio PlayerWood made a Facebook page for the fundraiser so people could donate at any time, he received a $5,000 anonymous donation which brought his total past his goal. Wood has reached out to hundreds of people in the community who helped him reach his goal. “I am just so overwhelmed with how many people donated, I know times are tough and the fact that people still supported means people still care,” said Wood.
The Robbie Dean Centre was established to fill gaps in areas where resources weren’t always available. The centre offers counselling and a variety of support groups.
Last year Wood raised just over $12,000 and he says that every time that goes up, his next year goal will be one dollar more. Wood has been raising money for the Robbie Dean Centre since 2020 and will be continuing his fundraising journey, hoping to make more than he did the year before.
