Fight fans from across the Ottawa Valley got quite the treat in Renfrew over the weekend.
Victory in the Valley brought nine Muay Thai bouts to the Renfrew Armouries on Saturday night, including a trio of talents from the local Renfrew Muay Thai gym.
Promotor Jeff Harrison says that the electric response that the standing room-only crowd brought to each fight caught his attention, with the rural atmosphere reminding him of his own experience living and fighting in the sport’s birthplace, Thailand.
The fight card demonstrated ages and skill levels ranging from amateur bouts featuring the area’s young talent up to the no-restriction main event, which marked the A-class debut of Renfrew Muay Thai product Maumer Brkic.
Harrison explains that each match not only highlighted the technical prowess of each fighter but also their personalities.
He hopes that people who were inspired to step into the ring themselves will explore the options they have in the community.
Given the reception, Harrison says he would love to return to Renfrew and the Valley for another event soon.
