Our local public school board reminds us that this month is about honouring the diverse voices and experiences enriching our community.
The Renfrew County District School Board is recognizing both Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month as they call for the community to honour the past, celebrate the present, and work towards a future where “all members of our community feel seen, heard, safe, and valued.”
In a statement from both RCDSB Chairperson Susan Humphries and Director of Education Kristen Niemi, they call National Indigenous History Month “a moment to reflect on the enduring legacy and invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples to our collective heritage. From their cultural richness to their unwavering resilience, Indigenous brilliance continues to inspire and guide us. Likewise, Pride Month invites us to celebrate the vibrant spectrum of identities and experiences within the 2SLGBTQI+ community, fostering a culture of love, acceptance, and authenticity.”
The school board says they remain steadfast in their dedication to empowering equity and well-being for all members of the community and pledge to uphold fundamental human rights, strive to remove barriers, foster inclusivity, and amplify marginalized voices.
They also call for the community to “honour the past, celebrate the present, and work towards a future where “all members of our community feel seen, heard, safe, and valued.”
