Irvyn Daniel Groehl age 92 of Petawawa and Kanata died peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on June 23rd, 2024. Born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario. Predeceased by parents Herman and Selma (nee Brose) Groehl, brother Iram, and sister Marie (Mel) Molson. Beloved husband of Diane (nee Leeder) for 67 years. Father to Janice, Troy (Ohio), Mark (Banff), and Lori (Kanata). Unfortunately, Janice died at the age of one. He loved and adored his childrens’ spouses, Cheryl (Troy) Groehl and Joe (Lori) Brown, and his grandsons Nathan, Tyler and Ryan, of which he was so proud. Irvyn once held employment at the Steel Equipment, Pembroke, AECL and Westinghouse, Deep River, Ontario and was the handyman at the Petawawa Medical Center where he finally retired at age 80. He was a fixer of all things and master woodworker. His workshop was his happy place where hundreds of projects were built and repaired. His legacy and labour of love was his intricately carved and constructed altar, pulpit, and crosses, among many other items, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Petawawa, Ontario. His quick wit, jovial nature and positive attitude will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 19th at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 605 Black Bay Rd, Petawawa followed by interment in the Parish Cemetery and reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Special Project Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home.
