The provincial government will be sending someone to help out at Renfrew Victoria Hospital.
Ontario has appointed Altaf Stationwala as the hospital’s new supervisor to “strengthen its governance, accountability, and ability to deliver the best possible care to Ontarians.”
In a statement released on Thursday morning, the province notes that Stationwala will work closely with RVH’s CEO, the board of directors, and staff to “address concerns regarding hospital governance and management practices, including concerning financial practices that were found as a result of a review conducted by Ontario Health and an independent third party.”
Stationwalla will provide the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health with regular updates during his tenure as supervisor, leading up to a final report for the province that will “help strengthen and improve the hospital’s governance, accountability, finances, and ability to deliver the best possible care to patients and their families.”
Regular operations at RVH will continue during his time with the hospital, and the government says that people connecting to care at RVH will see no disruption in service or programming.
Stationwala is currently President and CEO of Mackenzie Health, where he oversaw the opening of the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. He previously served as the Chief Operating Officer of Mount Sinai Hospital and as Chair of the Ontario Hospital Association.
