The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Nichol as the new Superintendent of Education, effective August 12, 2024. Nichol will join the senior RCDSB team following the resignation of Superintendent Kristin Riddell, who is returning to the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
Scott Nichol brings a robust academic background and extensive professional experience to his new role. He holds a Master’s degree in International Education from Charles Sturt University, a Bachelor of Education from Brock University, and a Bachelor of Science from The University of Waterloo. With 28 years of experience in education, including 15 years as a school administrator for the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB), Nichol has demonstrated a commitment to engaging students and fostering collaborative leadership. His diverse background spans elementary, secondary, and international education.
“We are thrilled to welcome Scott to the RCDSB team,” said Director Kristen Niemi. “With his wealth of knowledge, strong leadership skills, and diverse experiences, Scott will be an invaluable asset to the District. His passion, growth mindset, collaboration skills, and shared values will support the RCDSB Leadership Team in advancing our strategic priorities and our mission of working together to foster outstanding educational experiences for our students.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Scott Nichol stated, “I am honoured to join the Renfrew County District School Board and am eager to connect and engage with the staff and students. I look forward to building strong partnerships and supporting initiatives that inspire, empower, and achieve excellence in teaching and learning for all students.”
Originally from Waterloo, Nichol and his wife spent five years teaching overseas before settling in Renfrew County 19 years ago. Since moving to Pembroke, he has been actively involved in the local community, contributing to organizations such as Renfrew County Family and Children’s Services, Community Living, the Phoenix Centre, Pembroke Minor Hockey, and the Pembroke and Area Cross-Country Ski Club.
Scott Nichol’s appointment marks a significant step forward for the RCDSB as they continue to strive for excellence in education and community engagement.
