After many years of waiting, the day finally came for the official opening of Food Basics in Petawawa. The ribbon was cut earlier this morning, marking the first major development in Petawawa for many years. Geoff Ogilvie is the store manager and he tells myFM he’s been waiting for this day for a long time.
Over 100 people were on hand at 7:30 this morning, waiting to be the first shoppers. Former Mayor Bob Sweet was the head of the table when the deal to bring the store to Petawawa was made. He was on hand to see the store firsthand and says this was a big day for the town.
Food Basics also marked the day by making several donations to the community, including $5,000 to the Petawawa Pantry, $2,000 to the Petawawa Legion and $1,000 to the Military Museum.
Mayor Gary Serviss tells myFM that “Petawawa is extremely excited to welcome Food Basics to our community, at 32000 square feet, it’s one of our largest commercial developments in quite sometime. Thanks to Metro Inc. for investing in our town, providing 95 local jobs and for adding the personal touch of three historical Petawawa themed murals on the west side of the building. We’re looking forward to a long and collaborative relationship with the Food Basics franchise here in Petawawa.”
