The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is thrilled to announce a generous $37,000 grant from the Sandra Schmirler Foundation. This funding will be used to purchase a state-of-the-art Resuscitative for the hospital’s Obstetrical Unit, a crucial piece of equipment that provides specialized care during the critical moments following birth. The Resuscitative combines an effective warming therapy platform for newborns with the necessary components for clinical emergency and resuscitation.
The Obstetrical Unit at Pembroke Regional Hospital is a bustling department, handling over 700 births annually. “Ensuring we have the most up-to-date equipment for patient care is a top priority,” said Roger Martin, Executive Director of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation. “We rely on our donors and grants to acquire the tools and equipment needed to provide the highest standard of care. This gift is an investment in our community and will significantly impact the lives of our youngest patients and their families. We are deeply grateful to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for their generous grant.”
The Sandra Schmirler Foundation, based in Ottawa, provides grants to hospital foundations across Canada to purchase life-saving equipment for Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Named after the late Sandra Schmirler, a three-time Canadian and World Champion Curler and Olympic Gold Medalist, the foundation aims to ensure that babies born too soon, too small, or too sick have the opportunity to thrive.
“Our commitment to helping newborns across Canada has led us to support over 100 hospitals nationwide, and we are excited to now include Pembroke Regional Hospital in this journey,” said Darren McEwen, Executive Director of the Sandra Schmirler Foundation. “This grant will ensure that babies born in the Ottawa Valley receive the highest standard of care right from the start, embodying Sandra’s legacy of helping Champions Start Small.”
The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for their partnership and generosity. Together, we are ensuring that healthcare remains close to home.
