The Citizens of the Pontiac (CoP), a local group dedicated to the human and environmental health, safety, and security of MRC Pontiac, has launched a GoFundMe project as part of their “YACKING TO ACTING” series.
The initiative addresses a recent decision by the Quebec government to provide a $22,000 bonus to Radiology Technicians across the province. However, technicians at Shawville Hospital only received an $18,000 bonus, creating a $4,000 deficit per technician. This discrepancy has prompted many technicians to consider moving to urban areas to receive the full bonus.
Radiology Technicians are crucial to the operation of hospitals, supporting departments such as emergency, oncology, investigative procedures, and surgery. Losing five of the six radiology technicians at Shawville Hospital would severely impact its functioning and the overall health and safety of the community.
In response, CoP has launched the “Keeping Our Radiology Technicians Here” campaign. The goal is to raise not just the $4,000 differential, but an additional $1,000 as a gesture of appreciation, providing each technician with $5,000. The community is rallying together, with residents contributing through various means such as bake sales and art sales.
Funds raised by CoP will be given as honoraria gifts to the technicians. The Pontiac community values their radiology technicians and is committed to ensuring they receive fair compensation.
