Do you have your paddles ready? The fourth annual Ottawa Valley Doggy Paddle in support of the Renfrew County SPCA is just around the corner. The event will take place on August 11, 2024, at the Petawawa Point Beach with check-in starting at 9:00 a.m.
This year, the Doggy Paddle event is presented by End of the Leash in partnership with the Water and Dirt Festival. Participants are invited to canoe with their canines, kayak for kittens, or stand-up paddleboard with their pups, all in support of the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre.
Heather Jobe, the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch tells myFM all the proceeds raised will go back into the community.
The event only costs $50 per person which includes participant meal, gentle social paddle, swag bag and t-shirt. Jobe explains that it is so important to encourage the next generation to advocate for animals and participate in events like these. “There is so many young animal lovers out there and we really want to encourage them to come out and have fun,” said Jobe. This year she explained that there is a special fee for children, to register your child you can head to their Facebook page or head to https://www.wateranddirt.ca/water/doggy-paddle/ to receive those codes.
There are other ways to support the Renfrew County SPCA if you can’t attend the event. Jobe tells myFM that there is 50/50 draws happening and a raffle.
Jobe adds that nothing is better than hanging out at the beach with some furry friends, great music, fun activities and vendors.
She also reminds the community that it’s not to late to sign up and grab a paddle and board and have fun. Register and start raising funds now at https://www.wateranddirt.ca/water/doggy-paddle/ .
