Residents in the Town of Petawawa, City of Pembroke, and Township of Laurentian Valley are reminded of the upcoming large household goods collection from September 9 to September 13, 2024. Items should be placed curbside no earlier than Sunday, September 8.
Residents must separate items into four categories: scrap metal and non-Freon appliances, Freon appliances (with lids, doors, and contents removed), acceptable large items like furniture and carpets, and electronic waste such as TVs and computers. Small metal appliances like toasters should go in the yellow bin, with cords removed.
Chris Mantha, Director of Public Works in Petawawa, emphasized that only acceptable items will be collected, and prohibited materials like tires, construction debris, hazardous waste, and items in cardboard boxes or garbage bags must be disposed of separately by the homeowner. Laurie Benjamin, General Manager of Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre, warned of fire hazards from batteries left in items, urging residents to remove them before disposal.
Additional guidelines include ensuring items are manageable by two people, do not exceed 80 lbs., and are well-separated from non-collectible materials. Uncollected items must be promptly removed by the homeowner.
For more information, residents can visit www.ovwrc.com or consult their collection schedule.
