In the early hours of Wednesday, August 28, the Town of Petawawa Fire Department responded to a significant structure fire on Jan Drive. At approximately 4:00 a.m., fire crews arrived to find flames engulfing the rear and roof of the building.
The firefighters quickly initiated a defensive attack, ensuring the safety of all residents, who had already been accounted for. The fire, which required the efforts of eighteen firefighters and three pumper trucks, was brought under control within thirty minutes.
Despite their swift response, the building sustained extensive damage, particularly to the interior and roof areas. Firefighters remain on-site conducting overhaul operations and checking for any fire extensions.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police, Renfrew County Paramedics, and Hydro One were also present at the scene to assist with the emergency response.
