An Ottawa Valley poet and artist is sharing work inspired by the shocking tragedies that occurred this day 23 years ago.
David Robert Rae recalls the shock of witnessing the breaking reports of the September 11th terrorist attacks, which killed thousands in and around the World Trade Centre in New York in 2001.
The lasting hurt caused by the attacks stayed with Rae, and his poem, “Love After,” would be the end product of a full year of processing and coming to terms with one of the worst tragedies in recent history.
Rae hopes his work can provide an emotional release for people still grieving a loss from that fateful day.
Since completing “Love After” in 2002, Rae says the work has gone on to be recognized by media outlets, organizations supporting victims, and even the Prime Minister’s office.
