Mississippi Mills, known for its thriving community of small businesses, is set to celebrate local entrepreneurs who are the driving force behind the town’s economy. In honor of National Small Business Week, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills will recognize small business owners who have reached milestones of 10, 25, 35, 50, and 65+ years in operation.
The Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night will take place on Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m. at the Almonte Old Town Hall. Mayor Christa Lowry praised the enduring success of the local business community, stating, “We are fortunate to have a deep history of established, successful small businesses in Mississippi Mills. It is also rewarding to see newcomers choose Mississippi Mills to build or grow their businesses.”
Mayor Lowry also noted the challenges of recent years, particularly the pandemic, and highlighted the introduction of a new 10-year recognition category. “Reaching the 10-year milestone is something we want to celebrate together,” she added.
The Municipality is asking for community nominations for businesses that have reached these milestones. Nominations, including the business name, owner, years of operation, and a brief description, should be emailed to Bonnie Ostrom at bostrom@mississippimills.ca by Wednesday, October 2. Businesses must be located in Mississippi Mills and currently in operation.
Since 2016, 65 long-standing businesses have been recognized, and the Municipality looks forward to adding more to the list this year.
