The ongoing repair work at Kinsmen Pool is close to being finished after several delays. The pool has been closed since January 5 due to concerns about the roof’s safety. On March 19, the Council awarded the $1.4 million repair contract, which includes replacing the roof and walls. The Township of Laurentian Valley is covering up to 30% of the costs, contributing a maximum of $420,000.
The project, which began in June, was initially expected to wrap up by September. However, setbacks have pushed the timeline further. The Friends of the Regional Pool are raising $200,000 to support the repairs, with $84,000 collected so far. More information about donations can be found at makeasplash.ca.
Mayor Ron Gervais highlighted the pool’s importance to the community and its safe use. City staff are now working on reopening plans and schedules, which will be announced soon.
