A 60-year-old Pembroke resident is facing charges after police stopped a stolen vehicle on September 29, 2024. Officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment pulled over the vehicle on Pembroke Street East after an alert from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system in their cruiser.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 19, 2024. The driver, Thomas Alexander Patrick, was charged under the Criminal Code for possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
The ALPR system, which can read thousands of licence plates per minute, alerted police to the stolen vehicle. It also has the ability to detect suspended licences, Amber Alerts, and other vehicles of interest.
Patrick is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 5, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.
