The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid six charges under the Highway Traffic Act during “Operation Decibel” from September 23 to 29, 2024. The charges involved vehicles with improper or no mufflers, as well as unnecessary noise.
Operation Decibel was launched to tackle concerns about loud, illegally modified vehicles in the region.
Alongside these charges, UOV OPP officers responded to over 400 incidents throughout the week, including serious collisions, threats to schools, and cases of intimate partner violence.
UOV OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Steph Neufeld, noted strong public support for the campaign and stressed that officers will continue to monitor and address noise-related vehicle issues throughout the year.
Operation Decibel’s success highlights the OPP’s ongoing commitment to road safety and reducing noise pollution in the community.
