In a recent town council meeting, Petawawa Mayor Serviss welcomed Mr. Stephen and Mr. Nighbor of TorchLight Bioresources, who presented their concept for a Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant. The proposed project aims to provide a sustainable source of heat and electricity for the town.
During the presentation, Mr. Nighbor expressed gratitude to Mayor Serviss and the Town Council for the opportunity to introduce the initiative. Mr. Stephen then offered a detailed overview, outlining the benefits of bioheat and showcasing similar facilities in operation worldwide. He emphasized the advantages of district heating for municipalities like Petawawa, explaining how bioenergy could meet local energy demands.
Mr. Stephen also highlighted Ontario’s Biomass Program (OBP), which seeks to develop markets for low-grade wood. TorchLight Bioresources plans to submit an application to the OBP and requested a letter of support from the Town of Petawawa to move forward with a feasibility study for the biomass CHP plant.
Following a discussion, the council endorsed the project, passing a resolution to approve the drafting of a letter of support for TorchLight’s application to the OBP.
Mayor Serviss thanked Mr. Stephen and Mr. Nighbor for their comprehensive presentation and acknowledged their efforts in promoting sustainable energy solutions for the community.
