Families who qualify for the transportation subsidy designed to offset some of the costs incurred during the contract dispute that stalled buses for the start of the school year should now be able to apply.
Public and Catholic school board officials say the application process is now open through the School Cash Online program.
“Parents/guardians of students who are eligible for bus transportation are welcome to apply for the Transportation Subsidy to offset the disruption imposed by the lack of bus transportation services at the start of the 2024-25 school year,” reads a school bus notice.
If you are eligible for the subsidy and have not received an application through School Cash Online, you are asked to contact your school to ensure the information they have on file for your children is up to date or you can contact your school board.
Officials say the subsidy will be based on the distance from where the student(s) get on the bus to their school. The amount will be calculated by the school board based on the Student Transportation Information System.
Parents/guardians only need to apply once for the subsidy.
Bus service is expected to resume on Monday, Oct. 28.
