Algonquin College’s Pembroke Waterfront campus is committed to enhancing student learning experiences, and it has been recognized as a recipient of the DEWALT® Grow the Trades Grant. This grant supports the college’s mission to train skilled trades students, addressing the urgent need for skilled labor in the construction industry.
With approximately 500,000 construction jobs unfilled in North America, the DEWALT Grow the Trades Grants aim to close this skilled labor gap. The program provides funding and tool donations as part of a larger $30 million commitment over five years to support organizations that help train and reskill tradespeople.
The Pembroke Campus was selected from 166 North American organizations that are improving accessibility and resources for trade training. The grant will specifically benefit students in the Carpentry and Renovations Techniques program and the Carpenter apprenticeship program.
Jamie Bramburger, Interim Dean at Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus, expressed pride in receiving this grant, stating that it will enhance the quality of education and training for skilled trades students. Adam Johns, Coordinator of the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques program, noted that the funding will upgrade their tool inventory, giving students hands-on experience with the tools they will use on job sites.
Allan Hawes, General Manager of Stanley Black & Decker Canada, highlighted the importance of supporting educational programs like those at Pembroke Campus, which connect more individuals to training and career opportunities in the trades.
