Police have laid charges in a May fatal crash east of Arnprior and are issuing a reminder to drivers to pull over before tending to children in the back seat.
A 31-year-old Ottawa resident has been charged in connection to the May 14 fatal collision on Highway 417 west, by Kinburn Side Road.
Ottawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say that shortly before 9:30 a.m., a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 417 had crossed the center median and struck a vehicle that was travelling westbound. As a result, the driver of the westbound vehicle died at scene and the passenger suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Haylie Ledgerwood, 31, has been charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.
Ledgerwood is scheduled to appear in court in January 2025.
“The OPP would like to remind all drivers that if you need to tend to your children in the back seat, pull over to the side of the road when safe to do so,” reads an OPP press release.
