Master Corporal (MCpl) Jeffrey Steel, a member of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR), has expressed deep gratitude for being selected to represent the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in the Remembrance Day Sentry Program. “It’s a very humbling experience, and I am honoured to take part in remembering the service and sacrifices of all those who have served Canada,” he said.
Steel, who currently serves at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, Ont., joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2009 to become an infantry soldier. After swearing in at the Edmonton Recruiting Centre in 2010, he completed his Basic Military Qualification and began infantry training at the 3rd Canadian Division Support Base in Wainwright, Alberta.
Upon completing his training, Steel was posted to the 3rd Canadian Division Support Base Edmonton, where he served with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI). He worked within the parachute company for two years, earning his qualification as a paratrooper.
Eager to take on new challenges and broaden his military experience, Steel applied to join the Canadian Special Operations Regiment in 2013. His application was successful, and in 2014, he completed the demanding Special Forces Course, earning his badge as a Special Forces Operator.
Since becoming part of CSOR, MCpl Steel has been involved in multiple deployments across various theatres of operation, gaining further skills, qualifications, and leadership experience. His commitment to service and continuous professional development have been key to his success in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Throughout his military career, Steel has also been supported by his family, whose sacrifices have been crucial to his achievements. He is deeply appreciative of their unwavering support as he continues to serve Canada with pride and dedication.
MCpl Steel’s participation in the Remembrance Day Sentry Program is just one of many ways he honors those who have served in the past, and it underscores his ongoing commitment to the values of the Canadian Armed Forces.
